There are some beautiful untouched villages in Spain which you will come across however – none better than the small rural countryside village of Calasparra which is situated north-west of the Spanish city of Murcia.
The population of Calasparra is roughly just under 10,000 people, however – even though it is a small village, Calasparra is widely known by locals and day trippers in the local area due to its beauty and tranquil location. It is only a 30 minute drive to the main city of Murcia and is easily found.
Due to its popularity not only with the Spanish but also with foreign visitors, the village has gained more residents and also has a range of new developments which are under way at very realistic and affordable prices – the small development consists of stunning villas and apartments which is located next to the forest on the right hand side of the turn off to Calasparra when coming from the direction of Murcia.
The village is surrounded by mountains, even though Murcia is generally a very dry region (the driest in Spain) – Calasparras scenery boasts beautiful green views of the surrounding forest land and mountains. Also having numerous rivers crossing through the village and surrounding area also helps the village escape the rough and dry terrain that affects most of the Murcia region.
The main town is very much like most typical Spanish village that you may visit or see in the same province, with local services, schools, bars and restaurants.
There is also more development arising in the main centre of the village on the outskirts – which will be a very quiet location once all building work has been completed.
As Calasparra becomes increasing popular, the surrounding villages such as Cehegin, Caravaca, Jumilla and Bullas have also enjoyed a rise in interest from outside the region – such interest has brought in more construction companies to supply the demand.
Even with the market in Spain cooling off, inland village are still enjoying fresh interest generating more revenue for these villages in terms of business and use of local trades men and companies.
There are already a number of ex-pats living in the area, spending their retirement in the quiet villages of the area or for permanent living by starting their own businesses to help the British in their new surroundings or working from home.
Also there has been a rise in second / holiday homes purchased in the village and surrounding villages as it is a great place to come to escape the busy city life and recharge the batteries.
Things to do in the area mainly include eating local dishes and drinking local wines from the region, enjoying the rivers – swimming, fishing, water rafting. There is also more activities such as horse riding, climbing, cycling and shooting in the area which can be enjoyed for a day out.
One of the main attractions of Calasparra is the Santuario de la Virgen de la Esperanza, which is visited by many of the visitors to the village. The Santaurio is situated along the River Segura, where you will find many people enjoying the summer weather having a BBQ along the river and soaking themselves in the river.
There is also a nice double storey restaurant serving some excellent local Spanish food located next to the Santuario and a couple more a little further back towards the entrance on the road that will have to come down.
